New Postmaster General’s Plans

Postmaster General Megan Brennan says she will continue to push Congress to overhaul postal laws, which could include a move to 5-day-a-week mail delivery, so the U.S. Postal Service can compete more aggressively for ecommerce with shipping companies such as UPS and FedEx.

“Fundamental reform is required,” Brennan said in an interview with USA TODAY on Friday, moments before taking her oath of office to become the nation’s 74th Postmaster General and the first woman to lead the U.S. Postal Service. “Clearly we have a financial situation that is untenable.”
